Global Payments Canada Semi-integrated Payment Processing

These devices have being discontinued by the manufacturer in 2018. Still may work for an existing deployment but Global Payments is no longer allowing for any new installations.

This semi-integrated payment processing for credit and debit cards uses the vx810 or vx820 Duet payment terminal with Softpay.

This solution uses a the verifone vx810 or vx820 Duet pin pads

The vx810 / vx820 payment terminal with Softpay is supplied by Global Payments Canada. The payment terminal is responsible to communicating to Global Payments for authorization, printing a credit/debit slip, closing the batch, performing voids and other daily activities.

System Five or SpeedyPOS connects to the payment terminal through a serial port. System Five sends the sale / refund amount to the payment terminal, the clerk or customer then swipes the card through the payment terminal or the pinpad. The payment terminal authorizes the transaction and prints a customer and merchant slip. It then returns the approval amount, cash back amount and approval code to System Five.

RS-232 Serial connection only (USB-Serial connectors do not work)

The license codes will need to be changed to Payment Processor OTHER. From here a tab will be available in the Credit/Debit Card Verification Options for the Global Payment Semi-Integrated Processor, it's a matter of then checking the box to confirm you wish to use this, and then selecting the correct port.

Advantages

  • Batch closing must be done on the payment terminal.
  • Transactions must be voided on the payment terminal they were originally processed on.
  • No integration with e-Commerce, cards stored on file.
  • You need to maintain 2 printers, one for the payment receipt and one for the invoice.
  • Payment terminal requires some attention from the clerk, 2 receipts to retrieve for the customer.
  • Voiding can be a bit cumbersome.
  • Extra device required on your counter, though the footprint of the vx810 Duet is much smaller than that of the vx570+sc5000
  • Susceptible to swapping.
  • PIN pad can not be used for swiping gift cards. You will need to purchase a separate MSR.
