Thin Clients

Windward software solutions are currently designed for Microsoft Windows operating systems. Since a thin client is not a windows operating system, we do not offer support. This document is also available as a Solution Article.

Windward Software Systems does not support thin client operating systems. Visit the System Requirements for a list of supported operating systems.

Overview

Thin clients are diskless workstations that typically use remote desktop to connect to a server. They often do not have hard drives or a Windows operating system. Installation of software on the thin client is typically not possible.

System Five uses the remote POS device manager for handling all the POS devices locally for cloud and terminal services (RDP) clients. Being a windows program, the thin client typically cannot run the POS device manager.

Most thin clients have USB ports to plug devices into for mice, keyboards and printers. However, the software to make them work successfully may not be possible to be installed. This means that POS workstations that need to connect to barcode scanners, pinpads, slip printers, cash drawers or other devices, will not operate.
