Rebuilding Standalone LAN with an existing dataset

IMPORTANT: This article assumes you have experience with Pervasive Control Centre and editing Windows registry files. Extra assumptions are made that you can manipulate files and folders in the Windows environment.

ENSURE YOU HAVE A RECENT BACKUP OF YOUR WINDWARD DATA PRIOR TO PERFORMING ANY OF THESE STEPS

Scope

This process is for moving your Standalone LAN terminal from one computer to another in the event you wish to decommission a computer or reinstall because of a computer failure.

Methods

On the new Standalone LAN computer

  1. Install Pervasive Workgroup Engine
  2. License the Pervasive Engine with a 5 user Workgroup key
  3. Install System Five. The version must match the your current production version
  4. Copy Standalone.exe from your server to the local SYSTEM5\bin folder
  5. Copy your Standalone Data to a folder in the local SYSTEM5 folder
  6. Link System Five to your Main Data Set on the server
  7. Link System Five to your local Standalone Dataset
  8. Create a Windward shortcuts that point to the Main Data and Standalone Data locations
  9. Create a shortcut for your SYSTEM5\bin\Standalone.exe onto your desktop. Rename this shortcut as STANDALONE MONITOR
  10. Copy MAD.exe from the Windward FTP Site FIXME: Need path. Contact Windward Support for this file.
  11. Run MAD.exe on the local Standalone computer and click ipconfig.
  12. Make a note of the numbers below that will display from the MAD.exe program. Copy the second set of numbers that looks similar to 8903-2627-5674-1318-2798-3284 we will call this the hash.
  13. Run Pervasive Control Center and configure a DSN to the local Standalone Dataset
  14. Access the Standalone Table using Pervasive Control Centre and update the Machine column with the hash copied from the MAD.exe program output. Note the number in the Station column, this the StationID
  15. Use Regedit to access the registry. Access HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE → SOFTWARE → Windward
  16. (for v5.42 or prior) Add a String Value entry for “LocalDataset”. Modify this value and enter the path to the local Standalone Data directory
  17. (for v5.42 or prior) Add a String Value entry for “MainDataset”. Modify this value and enter the path to the server Windward data directory

There have been some changes to the registry settings for Windward System Five Version 6 outlined in the link below

On the Server

  1. Run Pervasive Control Centre and access the Standalone table
  2. Find the row that has the column with the StationID number and modify the Machine column with the hash

Running The Standalone

Run the Standalone Monitor on the rebuilt Standalone computer. It should allow you to log in and Update the Main and Update Standalone. If you received the message “This computer is not configured to run standalone” then one of the above steps was missed. Please verify the steps above or call Windward Technical Support for Assistance.
