Updating SystemFive from version 5.35 to 5.40

This document is currently under construction and is NOT complete. However, the main framework is in place.

!!! We STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you run the Inventory Quantity Check Report (and make any required changes) before updating from version 5.35 to version 5.4x. !!!

!!! BACKUP YOUR DATA BEFORE PROCEEDING !!!

**__Steps for fast backup before update__**

  • To backup up your data in preparation for upgrade, navigate to your SystemFive program directory located in:

[Drive]:\Windward\System5 or alternatively [Drive]:\System5 (If a install performed by someone other than a Windward Tech)

  • Select both the Bin and Data directories, then right-click - copy and paste in place. This will create two folders named Copy of Bin and Copy of Data

This will enable you to restore your installation quickly should there be a power failure or other unforseen problem during the update procedure.

The updating procedure

  • Step 1 - Launch and Login to SystemFive (on the Server)
  • Step 2 - From the 'Utilities' menu at the top of SystemFive select 'Windward System Five FTP Update'

  • Step 3 - On the screen that opens, select the site from the dropdown menu to download the update from and click the 'Download' button (ftp.windward-ca.com for N.American Users).

  • Step 4 - On the next screen, you will be prompted to select a version

  • Step 5 - When you select the 5.4 version, you will be asked to confirm as the data conversion process can take some time.

  • Step 6 - A dialogue box will open that requires you to type “yes' to continue. Do so and click 'OK'

  • Step 7 -Another dialogue box will open asking if you wish to update your training system or live system directory.

If you click 'Yes' this will update your Training System ONLY. If you select 'No' Your Live System will be updated.

It is STRONGLY recommended that you update your training directory (or create one should you not have one)

to test the new stock control system on your data BEFORE implementing it in your Live data set.

For the purpose of this walkthrough we will be answering 'NO' and proceeding with updating Live data set, if we answer yes, then there are several possible scenarios

  • Step 8 - On the next screen, there is a field titled 'For Update Information:'. Enter your email address here and click 'Yes' to continue.

  • Step 9 - On the next screen, The update utility will auto-detect and select components of SystemFive that require updating (No need to manually select additional components).

Click 'Next' to continue

  • Step 10 -Once the selected components have finished downloading, click 'next' to continue

  • Step 11 -In order to apply the update, all users MUST be signed out of SystemFive for it to be successfully applied. Ensure no users are running SystemFive and click 'Yes' to continue.

  • After the update has been successfully applied, you will see the following screen. Click 'Finish' to continue.

Converting Data To New Version

After completing the update proccess, the next time you launch SystemFive, you will be prompted to Convert your Data

The data conversion proccess can take some time. During this proccess, no users will be able to log in to SystemFive
  • Click 'Upgrade to New Version' to continue…

  • A pre-conversion utility will now launch allowing you the opportunity to make a backup of your current data set. However as we created a backup at the beginning of this process, we can optionally skip this step.

  • In the next step, SystemFive will analyze any files that need to undergo conversion to be compatible with the new release. Once this has completed, you will be presented with a summary of files that need to be rebuilt. Click Yes to continue.

  • Upon answering yes, your files will be rebuilt. This can take quite some time depending on the size of your data set.

When finished, you will be presented with the following screen.

CONGRATULATIONS! You have successfully upgraded SystemFive!

The next time you launch the application, you will be working in the new version with updated data. =)
